The CSB recently reported 105 combustible dust incidents between 2006 and 2017. Having clients in a number of these industries, I&#8217;m eager to hear the results of the Call to Action in which the CSB asks companies, regulators, inspectors, safety training providers, researchers, unions, and the workers of dust-producing operations questions to provide insight into the failure to identify and mitigate the hazards associated with combustible dusts.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve found change management to be the nemesis in many operations. A new material is brought into the facility without proper evaluation leading to inadequate control measures.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, I&#8217;ve noticed that many operations have not conducted thorough risk assessments.&nbsp; They may perform a chemical evaluation, however, have not evaluated the risks related to how the material will be used in the operation (e.g. sanding, grinding, welded, etc.).&nbsp; Material use can significantly alter the risks, hazards and required control measures.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about the CSB Call to Action <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csb.gov\/csb-releases-call-to-action-on-combustible-dust-hazards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>What have been your great challenges related to identifying and controlling combustible dusts?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Combustible dusts are in the spotlight again!
